Day 3 of the 10 Day Juice and Smoothie feast

by Ken Metcalf 29. July 2010 07:19

Day 3 started off with a lot to do and in terms of me also doing the 21 Day Challenge; hence the need to train for an hour a day.

I upped the amount of protein to compensate for not consuming any of the normal sources of protein like chicken or fish. The idea of a raw "fish" smoothie just did not appeal. I can eat sushi all day, but in a smoothie, hell no!

Breakfast Protein Shake

  • 100ml (2 scoops) of high quality protein shake
  • 250ml of rooibos tea - made 30 minutes before and allowed to cool
  • pinch of green powder
  • 5-6 sprigs of parsley
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Blend in a high power blender for 1-2 minutes and drink.

Lunch - Banana and Avo Blitz

One of my favorite ingredients in a smoothie has always been avo. So for lunch today here is the avo and strawberry blitz

  • Half a ripe avo
  • 1 large banana
  • 250ml 100% pure apple juice
  • Handfull of Goji Berries
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Blend in a high power blender for 1-2 minutes and drink.

Evening - Strawberry Surprise

The evening meal was one of the tastiest so far, the strawberry surprise

  • One Medium Banana
  • 3 Spinach leaves
  • 10 medium size strawberries
  • 200ml 100% pure orange juice
  • Handfull of rolled oats
  • Handfull of sunflower seeds
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Blend in a high power blender for 1-2 minutes and drink.

Day three of the 10 Day Juice Feast completed... now off to a function.

Excercise vs Food, have we got it wrong?

by Ken Metcalf 31. March 2010 14:20

The 2 key principles for me in life are Balance and Simplicity. In response to my blog about the 21 Day Challenge a friend of mine rightly suggested that peoples responses may have been skewed by the fact that it was an excercise based challenge.

This got me thinking about the balance between excercise and the food we consume and the quantity of each we do.  The recommendation from most health professionals is excercise 3 to 4 times per week. On the other hand we eat 3 to 4 times per day and often more if you add in the stops at the friendly vending machine, company snack shop or corner cafe!

My thinking goes that is the days before we wore clothes and tweeted on twitter, we spent a larger % of our time hunting/gathering as compared to eating.  So my question is, have we got it wrong, should we be exercising a LOT more than we do in order for us to be in balance with the way nature intended?  We are all aware of the worldwide pandemic of obesity and the associated conditions such as diabetes and heart conditions.  Maybe, just maybe, we have it wrong and we need to excercise for the same amount of time as we sit around consuming doughnuts and fizzy drinks ?
